Stanford Avenue Methodist Church
Eco Congregation

Our church has an Eco- Congregation award.

In Sep-Oct 2008 we held a series of four Sunday morning worship services on the theme of “ Caring for Creation” looking at how we can change the way we live to make the whole environment better for people and creatures locally and in other parts of the world. The series culminated with our Harvest Festival when the church had displays focussed on the Harvest of the Sea. We also held a prayer vigil focussing on the same ecological theme.

Our children and young people in Megaquest investigated some of God’s creatures which are endangered. They have sponsored a rock hopper penguin named “Slasher” at a local animal park and are planning to visit Slasher in the near future.

Throughout the church we are encouraging re-cycling by having persuaded Brighton & Hove City Council to provide us with black boxes which have been placed in prominent places for users of the church to place items for re-cycling in. These are sorted by one of our members prior to the council collecting them.

This is a whole church project which we hope will raise awareness of the congregation and neighbourhood and complement our Fairtrade Church accreditation.
