Singing Group We are a small, friendly group who enjoy Singing Hymns. We sing an introit at the beginning of morning worship, and, on special occasions, e.g. for the Harvest Festival, we sing a longer piece as an anthem. At the candlelit Carol Service, which is held on the last Sunday evening before Christmas, we sing several carols.
If there is a social event for the Church family, we join with members of the Stanford Avenue Players (Drama Society) to provide entertainment in the form of popular songs.
Last summer, some of the group enjoyed being part of a Circuit Choir, which performed the musical ‘Greater than Gold’, the story of Mary Jones and her bible, at all the Churches in the circuit.
Another highlight last year was our Nativity play written by Robert Patching, a church member, which was performed during Advent. Again, our group joined with the Stanford Avenue Players to sing carol during the performances.
Every Christmas, we go along to St Mary’s House, a nursing home on Preston Park Avenue, with other Church members, to sing carols. The residents join in and it is always a happy occasion.
The Sing Group is always keen to welcome new members – there is no audition, you just have to enjoy singing! We meet every Friday at 7.00 pm for about an hour, in the Fellowship room, and would be delighted to see you if you would like to come along.
